Founded in 1855, Morin-Heights celebrates 165 years of history, evolving from a forest territory to an artistic and sports center. Its name comes from Augustin-Norbert Morin, minister who divided the region in the 1830s. Morin Township was split, creating the municipality of Morin-Heights. Before the 19th century, the region was inhabited by Mohawk hunters. In 1850, Irish settlers settled there, and the municipality grew.
Four post offices were opened in the canton of Morin to respond to the increase in the population. In the 1930s, the tourist industry developed with the opening of hotels and ski resorts. The end of rail service was followed by the creation of the Aerobic Corridor for skiers, hikers and cyclists. Morin-Heights is recognized as the “cross-country skiing capital”, with the “Sommet Morin-Heights” station in 1981. Morin-Heights remains a dynamic place, where the environment and culture are at the heart of community life.
Recognized also for its private golf club, Le Balmoral, its trails, its spas and its nature, several small restaurant owners have opened their doors in the area. Being located very close to Saint-Sauveur, you will also find everything you need, just a few minutes away.
